Saturday March 9th, 2019, saw elrow El Triangulo de las Rowmudas, make its Leeds debut in one of the most notorious venues of the North, Canal Mills. With the heart-breaking news of Leeds’ infamous Mint Club shutting down, which was the renowned hub for minimal and techno enthusiasts, Canal Mills then went onto announce that their venue was being shut down too.

“Following the announcement of the Canal Mills estate redevelopment, Canal Mills will close its doors after six incredible years, for the final time on 01.01.19. Locking behind it over half a decade of unforgettable memories and moments.”

With this, came the announcement of a series of farewell events called “The Final Chapter”…

Ironically, this wasn’t the end of the venues book, with the confirmation that it was going to remain open for the Summer of 2019. Undoubtedly, the locals of Leeds were overjoyed with the news that another one of their most beloved venues was not going to be taken away from them. What better way to unite the Northern ravers, than to bring the notorious elrow show to the electronic music hub of the North.

The Rowmuda Triangle being a play on the words, with of course, The Bermuda Triangle, saw the show encompass everything under the sea themed, with the performers and décor reminding us all that summer is just around the corner. The venue had transformed from an industrial warehouse into an energetic, vibrant world of colour and movement, transporting you the depths of the sea … with the shows iconic performers adding that extra bit of authenticity to the renowned elrow day.

With elrow being the epitome of groovy tech-house, the line-up consisted of Melé and residents of the extravaganza, Marc Maya and Eddy M. Melé, having played numerous of elrow shows before, his name was anticipated but nevertheless any less elated. He bought his enthusiasm and love for what he does, to the show, throwing around his iconic, upbeat, tribal sounds as well as playing some old-school dance classics. Eddy M and Marc Maya put their own twist onto their tech-house sets, which sure got the crowd ready for Melé’s 3-hour set.

With the 9th of March date selling out within under an hour and a second date quickly added, the response from Leeds proved how much elrow parties are awaited and sought for within the dance community.

Unquestionably, that will not the last time we see the spectacle come to this city again.
